About Quagga Designs
Our furniture design company originally started as a manufacturing shop for solid wood panels that were 
shipped to Germany for the production of furniture.
Quagga founder, Carl Heinrichs, knew the German market and language well, since he had grown up in Germany, developed his love for working with beautiful woods there and obtained the famous German passion for quality and devotion to outstanding craftsmanship.
After his marriage to wife Cristina the couple relocated to the Niagara Region of Ontario, Canada, where they joined Carl’s parents and brother to establish the above mentioned shop, founded in 1990.
By 1999 Carl and Cristina felt the time had come to start designing their own furniture line. Working together with famous German designer Matthias Lange (now retired), the first designs took shape and were manufactured right in their shop in St. Catharines, Ontario.
The furniture was sold through a small store Carl and Cristina had opened on Lakeshore Road in Oakville, Ontario. In addition to the existing designs, Carl also produced many custom-built projects in the Oakville area and was a member and guest speaker at the “Designers Walk” permanent furniture exhibition in Toronto.
Over the years Carl and Cristina exhibited their furniture lines at the “International Furniture Exhibition Show” in Toronto as well as at the “imm” International Furniture Show in Cologne, Germany.
By 2006 Quagga had outgrown the little store in Oakville and was operating out of a large warehouse (and Quagga's present location) on Read Road in St. Catharines, selling to stores in Canada, the U.S. and Germany. Production of the furniture had been delegated to a reliable, well-established manufacturing company to allow Carl to focus his talent on the development of new furniture designs.
