There are many advantages to a Quagga bed compared to some of the Ikea beds.
Our main focus is the ease of assembly, which requires us to incorporate no or very few metal parts. For the customer it can be time-consuming and frustrating to use metal parts such as screws or metal brackets. Small metal parts can easily be lost during assembly or unboxing of the product. They can also be a hazard when exposed to little children or pets, as the danger is in swallowing the small parts. To order replacement parts can become a headache and takes usually a long time to receive the missing parts.
Another benefit is the ability to expand some of our beds, from one mattress size to the next, within one-bed frame. For example, our No-Fuss Plus bed is able to expand by simply moving the base forward which requires very little effort. None of the Ikea beds feature this benefit.
Being conscious about our environment and avoiding hazardous materials in production is one of our main concerns. This is why we treat all of our beds with linseed oil which is eco-friendly. Scratches can be easily fixed by applying small amounts of linseed oil to fill the scratch. The oil penetrates deep into the wood and gives the wood a warm patina. None of the Ikea beds are treated with linseed oil.
We source Canadian grown birch from mills in Montreal. Quebec is known for growing some of the best Hard Maple and Birch wood. We also use Birch wood for its strength/stability and the beautiful grain. None of the Ikea beds feature Canadian grown hardwood.
Our platform beds are some of the strongest in the industry. All of our beds exceed a load capacity of 800lbs. The strength is greatly increased by turning the slats sideways, as we have done with the Accordion bed. The pressure of the weight is now absorbed by the full width of the slat.
Ikea will not publish the weight limit of their beds!
